President Biden made the comment about Ukraine’s being allowed to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on Friday, in an interview with CNN that the cable news outlet aired Sunday, before Biden left for Europe.
“I don’t think it’s ready for membership in NATO,” he said, acknowledging how the move would create more problems with member nation Russia.
“I don’t think there is unanimity in NATO about whether or not to bring Ukraine into the NATO family now, at this moment, in the middle of a war,” he said.
NATO member nations are reportedly considering whether NATO should offered Ukraine membership during the alliance’s two-day summit in Lithuania.
