NYC Mayor Adams Opens Two More Migrant Shelters As Asylum Seekers Pass 54K

Under the leadership of Mayor Eric Adams, the administration in New York City is expanding its existing network of approximately 180 emergency shelters by incorporating two additional permanent, substantial facilities. These shelters cater to the needs of over 54,000 homeless individuals across the city.

Effective Tuesday, the Crowne Plaza JFK Airport will transition from a temporary respite center to a humanitarian relief facility, accommodating over 330 families with children who are in search of asylum.

Furthermore, in the forthcoming weeks, another short-term emergency site located in Brooklyn will be repurposed to function as a relief center, offering support to around 1,400 adults in need.
