The timeline leading up to the Oscars is shifting in response to the wildfires that continue to devastate Hollywood and the Southern California area.
Due to the impact of the fires, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday, Jan. 13 that its schedule of events this award season will be reconfigured.
The nominations voting period is now extended through Friday, Jan. 17. The announcement of the nominations (originally scheduled for this Friday, Jan. 17) will now happen Thursday, Jan. 23, at 8:30 a.m. ET and be a virtual event with no in-person media.
Additionally, the annual Oscars nominees luncheon, scheduled for Feb. 10, is canceled, and the Scientific and Technical Awards, slated for Feb. 18, will be rescheduled to a later date.
As of now, the 97th Academy Awards will still be held Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, televised live at 7 p.m. ET on ABC and streaming on Hulu.
“We are all devastated by the impact of the fires and the profound losses experienced by so many in our community,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang in a statement. “The Academy has always been a unifying force within the film industry, and we are committed to standing together in the face of hardship.”
