On his podcast, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) disclosed on Tuesday his plan to introduce legislation aimed at defunding investigations conducted by special counsel Jack Smith into former President Trump.
Gaetz’s announcement came shortly after Trump revealed that he had been notified of being a target in the Justice Department’s inquiry concerning the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack and efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election results, an investigation being led by Smith.
Gaetz accused those involved in the investigations of undermining democracy and engaging in election interference, pledging to defund the Jack Smith investigation in response to these concerns.
