Two police officers in Virginia were fatally shot following a traffic stop Friday night, officials said.
“Our city is grieving,” the Virginia Beach Police Department said in a statement. “Two brave police officers who dedicated their lives to protecting this community died in the line of duty.”
The traffic stop was initiated at about 11:30 p.m. in Virginia Beach, according to Jody Saunders, a spokesperson for the Virginia Beach Police Department. Saunders did not say whether a suspect was in custody.
