Vice President Kamala Harris is being heavily criticized after claiming most people can’t afford a $400 unexpected expense while speaking about reproductive rights on Friday in Iowa.
Harris took the stage at Drake University in Des Moines and said, “Most Americans are a $400 unexpected expense away from bankruptcy,” despite praising the economic policies of President Joe Biden.
Around 37% of Americans don’t have enough money to cover a $400 emergency expense, according to the Fed’s 2022 Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households survey released in May.
