UAW To Seek 32-Hour Work Week, Double-Digit Pay Hike, More Bennies

The newly appointed president of the United Auto Workers has announced that the union will present an extensive list of economic demands to General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis this week.
Shawn Fain, the elected chief, argues that these companies are generating substantial profits and are fully capable of meeting these demands. During a recent Facebook Live presentation, Fain expressed his frustration with past practices where the president would negotiate privately with the company, excluding the elected national negotiators. Fain emphasized the need to abolish wage tiers, implement double-digit pay increases, reinstate cost-of-living pay, and provide defined benefit pensions for all workers.
Additionally, Fain proposed that companies compensate workers for community service or other work in the event of plant closures and suggested a 32-hour work week.
