His passing was confirmed by his son to The Washington Post, although the specific cause of death was not disclosed. Born in New York, N.Y. in 1923, Buckley, a U.S. Navy veteran, secured his Senate position in 1970 as a member of the Conservative Party of New York.
He held the distinction of being the oldest living senator at the time of his passing. Additionally, he was renowned as the brother of the late influential conservative figure William F. Buckley Jr., who established the National Review, a prominent conservative publication.
