Less than a fortnight into the academic year, a school district in Kentucky has opted to suspend in-person classes for the remainder of the week due to a significant portion of its student body contracting illnesses such as Covid, strep throat, and the flu.
The Lee County School District, accommodating nearly 900 students, initiated classes on August 9. However, attendance notably declined to approximately 82% on Friday, as revealed by Superintendent Earl Ray Schuler.
Subsequently, by Monday, the attendance rate further decreased to 81%, while 14 staff members reported their absence due to sickness, Schuler added.
