‘The Numbers Are Astronomical’: Feds Lack The Ability To Track All Migrants Released Into US

An inspector general report released on Monday has revealed that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) lacks the capability to effectively track all illegal immigrants who are released from its custody into the interior of the United States. This deficiency is, in part, attributed to the significant volume of individuals entering the country.
The report highlights that Border Patrol encounters challenges in consistently recording the addresses of migrants, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) does not always verify these addresses prior to releasing migrants.
Over the period from March 2021 to August 2022, Border Patrol recorded 981,671 migrant records, yet more than 177,000 were found to be either missing, invalid for delivery, or associated with non-legitimate residential locations.
