Court Rules In Favor Of Christian Club Banned From California School District

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a ruling on Wednesday, determining that a California school district had violated the rights of a Christian athletics club by ejecting it from campus.
In 2019, the San Jose Unified School District revoked recognition of the Fellowship for Christian Athletics (FCA) after a teacher raised concerns about the club sharing its faith on campus, including its belief in the traditional definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.
Following these events, the FCA filed a lawsuit with the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty in April 2020. While facing previous legal setbacks, the 9th Circuit’s recent decision overturned a prior ruling and indicated that the district may have infringed upon the FCA’s First Amendment rights.
