Republican Representative Claudia Tenney of New York has called for the initiation of an impeachment inquiry into Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, accusing her of providing false testimony to Congress regarding her family’s stock ownership. Tenney made this demand during her remarks at a House Science and Technology Committee hearing, where Granholm was testifying on her agency’s science and technology priorities.
Tenney’s call for an impeachment inquiry marks the first instance of a lawmaker requesting such an investigation into Secretary Granholm.
In her statement, Tenney outlined a series of alleged violations committed by Granholm since taking office in 2021, including multiple violations of the Hatch Act.
“Since assuming office in January of 2021, Secretary Granholm has been implicated in multiple Hatch Act violations,” Tenney stated during the hearing. “She held Proterra stock while President Biden consistently promoted the company, and her husband maintained Ford stock while she actively promoted the companies’ activities using official resources.”
