Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Sunday warned of airline disruptions if Congress fails to pass a funding bill to keep the federal government fully operational past Sept. 30.
Buttigieg issued the warning on CNN’s “State of Union.”
When pressed for specifics about a shutdown would impact air passengers, the transportation secretary suggested his agency is struggling with a workforce shortage and ongoing efforts to improve technology at the FAA, which in January has had an IT issue that caused major flight delays.
Buttigieg also suggested air traffic controllers could be furloughed.
