N. Dakota GOP Gov Burgum Signs Law Banning Abortions At Six Weeks

The legislation signed into law Monday banning abortion at six weeks of pregnancy without exception is now one of the most strict anti-abortion laws in the country.
“This bill clarifies and refines existing state law … and reaffirms North Dakota as a pro-life state,” Burgum said.
The law is supposed to take effect immediately, but the state’s Supreme Court last month ruled North Dakota’s existing abortion ban will remain blocked while a lawsuit over its constitutionality proceeds.
State lawmakers said last week they planned to pass the bill Burgum signed to send a message to the state’s high court that residents want to restrict abortion.
