Scalise Gets 7 Votes, McCarthy 6 As Jordan Falls Short

In the initial round of voting, Rep. Jim Jordan garnered only 200 votes, falling significantly short of the 217 votes required to secure the position of Speaker of the House. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries received the highest number of votes, totaling 212, with unanimous support from Democratic members.
Among House Republicans, 20 members cast votes for candidates other than Jordan to succeed House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Their votes were distributed among various candidates, with some supporting McCarthy, some backing Steve Scalise, and others voting for individuals such as Reps. Thomas Massie and Tom Cole, along with former Rep. Lee Zeldin.
In this process, Scalise received 7 votes, McCarthy secured 6, Zeldin obtained 3, and four additional candidates each received one vote.
