The Republicans Who Voted Against Jim Jordan

In the initial roll call vote on the House floor for the election of a new speaker of the House, Republicans who oppose Rep. Jim Jordan’s bid for speaker made their stance clear.
The vote tally revealed that Jordan is not receiving any votes from Democrats, who are backing Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. As the voting process unfolds, the number of opposing votes has already surpassed the four-vote margin that Jordan could afford to lose. This outcome ensures that there will be another round of voting if those opposing Jordan’s candidacy do not alter their position.
Rep. Don Bacon (R-NB) was the first to vote against Jordan: “I just I can’t abide by the fact that a small group violated the rules to get what they wanted,” he said Monday night. “Now I’m supposed to play by the rules. So, I think we got to have consequences and you got to stand up to this.”
