3K Migrants In NYC Shelters; System Maxed Out

Approximately 3,000 asylum-seekers currently find shelter in New York City, with many facing impending departures, but an estimated half of this group is reportedly submitting fresh applications to extend their stay.
The city of New York has faced significant challenges accommodating a substantial surge of asylum-seekers, with numbers exceeding 120,000 in the past year, as reported by the Associated Press.
Among these, around 60,000 individuals have sought refuge in shelters administered by the city. Legal obligations mandate the city to offer emergency housing to those classified as homeless within its jurisdiction.
