Freedom Caucus Calls For House To Stay In DC Until Speaker Is Elected

The House Freedom Caucus, on Monday, issued a statement urging House leaders to retain Republican members in Washington until the election of a new Speaker of the House. This call comes as the position of Speaker has remained vacant for almost three weeks following the removal of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
In their statement, the House Freedom Caucus expressed their belief that allowing members to return to their districts over the weekend was a mistake, and they emphasized the need for continuity.
Their statement, “No Speaker, No Recess,” stressed that the House Republican Conference should remain in Washington, D.C., until a new Speaker of the House is chosen. The statement further pointed out that their work is far from complete and that they are essentially starting over, particularly after the rejection of Ohio GOP Rep. Jim Jordan, a widely popular Republican figure, by House Republicans.
