DC Mayor Moves To Return To Pre George Floyd-Era Policing Amid Crime Surge

D.C. Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowers on Monday proposed tougher police policies that appear to be move toward policing before the 2020 death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody. (An officer knelt on Floyd’s neck during the arrest.)
Floyd’s death resulted in police reforms that critics say was the start of an urban crime surge that got worse during the pandemic.
Bowser’s proposal clarifies the distinction between a serious use of force and incidental contact with the neck and cracks down or organized retail crime, otherwise know as flash mob shoplifting.
