Putin Removes Russia From Nuclear Test Ban Treaty

On Thursday, President Vladimir Putin of Russia officially signed into law the withdrawal of Russia’s ratification of the global treaty that prohibits nuclear weapons tests. This move was widely anticipated and has drawn criticism from the organization that advocates for adherence to this significant arms control treaty.
The decision to withdraw from the treaty reflects the strained relations between the United States and Russia, which have deteriorated to their lowest point since the 1962 Cuban missile crisis. These tensions are fueled by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and Moscow’s perception of Washington’s efforts to hinder the establishment of a new multipolar global order.
The United States has expressed serious concern regarding Russia’s decision to withdraw from the treaty, characterizing it as a regressive step in the wrong direction.
