The GOP Field Narrows

Republican presidential contender Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) has dropped out of the 2024 GOP primary, the latest high-profile exit from the race.
Scott made the announcement Sunday night to Fox News’ Trey Gowdy. The South Carolina senator launched his candidacy in May 2022, and was the second South Carolinian after former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley to run for the White House on the Republican side.
He campaigned on a largely positive and optimistic message that drew on his personal story as someone raised by a single mother who came to be the only sitting Black Republican senator.
