With Migrant Costs Overburdening NYC, Mayor Orders $2.1B In Cuts For Spending On Crisis

New York City Mayor Adams is ordering his administration to find a way to cut $2.1 billion in projected spending on housing and services for newly-arrived migrants, according to a memo Monday from City Hall.
The memo sent to all agency leaders comes days after the Adams administration announced a November financial plan modification, which would enact deep budget cuts across all agencies.
The plan and cuts announced last week are part of a 5% city government-wide spending reduction first ordered in September due to fiscal concerns over the migrant crisis.
