Two Nevada state troopers lost their lives in a hit-and-run incident on a Las Vegas freeway as they assisted another driver Thursday morning.
The troopers had halted to check on a driver found asleep behind the wheel on Interstate 15 around 3:30 a.m. when a white Chevrolet HHR struck both officers, according to Las Vegas police.
The driver failed to stop, as per police spokesperson Branden Clarkson. One trooper was declared dead at a hospital, while the other succumbed to the injuries at the scene. The victims were identified as Sgt. Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix, both husbands with children, by the Nevada Highway Patrol.
