New York Supreme Court Clears Path For New Congressional Map

A New York court has granted approval for the state to redraw its congressional map, providing a significant advantage for Democrats aiming to regain control of the U.S. House in 2024. In a 4-3 decision on Tuesday, the court directed the state’s redistricting commission to create a new map by February 28, 2024.
While the Democratic-controlled legislature will have the final say, Republicans caution that the legislature may engage in gerrymandering once again.
Redistricting expert Jeffrey Wice suggests the outcome will depend on whether Democrats and Republicans can reach a compromise on the map or if further legal battles will ensue.
