Oklahoma Republicans are condemning their GOP U.S. senator, James Lankford, for what they call his “Open Border Deal” with Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer that would reportedly allow 5,000 illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. daily.
After Oklahoma state Sen. Dusty Deevers posted the resolution on X, formerly Twitter, Saturday following its passage last week, Lankford dismissed some of the claims in the resolution as “internet rumors” when he appeared Sunday on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” and “Fox News Sunday.”
“It would be absolutely absurd for me to agree to 5,000 people a day. This bill focuses on getting us to zero illegal crossings a day,” Lankford said on Fox.
The text of the bill has yet to be made public.
The resolution, which was announced Saturday after passing last week, states that Lankford “was recently working with Democrat Senator Charles Schumer on an open border deal to allow 5,000 illegal immigrants a day to enter and work in the United States.”
