WH, Hill Dems In Uproar Over GOP Bill Requiring Proof Of Citizenship To Vote In Federal Elections

The Biden administration released a statement on Monday opposing a GOP-led bill that requires voters to prove their citizenship in the United States in order to vote in federal elections.

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act was introduced by Texas Rep. Chip Roy, a Republican and is expected to get a full floor voter this week.

The Biden administration argued that the bill is redundant because it is already illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections, and punishable by prison time or fines.
