Iowa Braces For State Court’s Abortion Decision, Could Revive 6-Week Ban

A much-anticipated Iowa Supreme Court decision that could substantially curtail abortion rights across the state will be released Friday, the court announced Thursday.
The case involves a 2018 state law that banned nearly all abortions in Iowa after a fetal pulse can be detected, which is roughly the sixth week of a pregnancy. That measure, which cuts off abortion access before many women even realize they are pregnant, was the most restrictive in the country when the Iowa Legislature passed it and Gov. Kim Reynolds signed it into law.
It never took effect, though, as an Iowa district court permanently blocked it.
