AI Could Detect Early Symptoms Of Dementia

Researchers at the University of Sheffield in the U.K. have developed a new artificial intelligence-powered tool called CognoSpeak, which aims to identify signs of dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other memory disorders by analyzing an individual’s speech and language patterns.

According to a press release, the tool demonstrated promising results in initial trials involving participants with Alzheimer’s and cognitively healthy individuals. CognoSpeak exhibited a 90% accuracy rate in detecting dementia, which is comparable to the accuracy of traditional “pen-and-paper tests.”

The system’s innovative approach to analyzing speech and language patterns provides a potential avenue for early detection and diagnosis of memory disorders. The researchers behind CognoSpeak hope that it can contribute to improving the identification and management of these conditions in the future.
