ABOUT TO HIT THE FAN

A group of American citizens advocating against illegal immigration is scheduled to hold peaceful protests and prayer sessions at three border locations on Saturday. Dubbed the “Take Our Border Back” convoy, the initiative began its journey in Virginia earlier this week, targeting Eagle Pass, Texas; Yuma, Arizona; and San Ysidro, California for their events.

Despite the organizers’ emphasis on non-violent demonstration, some express concerns about potential negative impacts on immigrant communities amid tense political debates over immigration policies and rising border apprehensions.

The convoy aims to highlight issues of border security, a topic that has seen drastic increases in the number of unauthorized migrant entries under the current administration.

The campaign comes during a period when immigration policy has become a central theme in the political discourse, attracting commentary and action from figures across the political spectrum, including former President Donald Trump.

Eagle Pass, in particular, has been the site of contention, illuminating the clash over federal versus state jurisdiction in immigration enforcement. Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, has taken measures such as deploying state forces and constructing physical barriers along the Rio Grande, sparking legal and political confrontations with federal authorities.

The border town will also be the backdrop for a separate gathering on Sunday, featuring Governor Abbott and an assembly of 14 other Republican governors, to advocate for Texas’s approach to border enforcement.”
