‘American Cities Need Republicans’: Dallas Mayor Leaves Democratic Party

The mayor of one of the largest cities in the United States announced in a Friday op-ed his decision to switch his political affiliation from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson penned an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal titled “America’s Cities Need Republicans, and I’m Becoming One.” In his piece, Johnson gave his reasons for leaving the Democratic Party, citing the critical role that mayors play in safeguarding law and order and advocating for fiscal conservatism as essential for the future of America’s major urban centers.
Johnson expressed his belief that the commitment to these principles within the Republican Party is more consistent and steadfast compared to the Democratic Party’s sometimes wavering stance, which he described as being influenced by polls. He underscored the urgency of these principles for the well-being of cities and emphasized the long-standing dedication of the GOP to upholding them.
