Another African Nation Taken Over By Military Coup

In the early hours of Wednesday, a group of senior military officers from Gabon appeared on national television and declared that they had seized control of the government, shortly after the state’s election commission declared President Ali Bongo the winner of a third term.
Addressing the public via Gabon 24, a national television channel, the officers claimed to be acting on behalf of all security and defense forces within the Central African country.
During their televised announcement, the officers announced the nullification of the election results, the closure of all borders until further notice, and the dissolution of state institutions.
