Former President Donald Trump’s legal problems have helped to push Republican support for his 2024 bid to win back the White House to a new high.
The latest Economist/YouGov survey found that 61% of Republicans want Trump to run again, the highest figure recorded in that poll. By comparison, just 48% of Democrats want President Joe Biden to run.
Importantly, since the indictment, Trump has moved into the lead over Biden, 44%-42%. When asked about a head-to-head race in January, registered voters gave Biden the lead, 46% to 42%.
“Republicans are rallying around Trump,” said the survey analysis.
