Babies With DNA From 3 People Born For First Time In U.K.

The U.K.’s fertility regulator confirmed Wednesday the births of the nation’s first babies using an experimental process with DNA from three people.

The Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority said fewer than five babies have been born this way in Britain but did not provide further details due to the privacy of the families involved in the project.

Britain became the first country to adopt a law regulating methods to help prevent women with faulty mitochondria from passing defects on to their babies.
