In two weeks, Fred Lucas, The Daily Signal’s chief news correspondent, is set to lose his White House press credentials as part of the latest move by President Joe Biden’s administration to restrict media access to the White House, which Biden often refers to as “the People’s House.”
The White House Press Office will enforce new regulations on July 31, when all existing “hard passes” are due to expire. As a hard pass holder since 2009, Lucas will no longer have easy access to White House press briefings or be able to freely navigate the Pennsylvania Avenue campus, which he has been doing for the past 14 years.
The key point of contention revolves around the rules announced in May, which limit the number of journalists eligible for White House hard passes and grant Biden’s press team more authority to remove journalists whom they do not favor.
