In a recent statement, Republican California State Senator Scott Wilk expressed his belief that individuals should leave California if they care about their children.
This sentiment arises in response to a bill proposed by Democratic Assemblywoman Lori Wilson, with the support of Democratic Senator Scott Wiener. The bill, known as Assembly Bill 957, aims to modify a section of California’s Family Code pertaining to family law and gender identity within custody disputes.
Presently, existing legislation guides the determination of child custody and visitation in contested cases. It mandates that the court, when deciding custody, assess the child’s best interests using various factors, including the extent and quality of interaction with both parents, as well as the child’s overall well-being, safety, and health.
