The Los Angeles Unified School District decided to revoke its COVID-19 vaccine mandate for employees, a policy that had been in place for two years.
In a 6-1 vote conducted by the board of education, the nation’s second-largest school system put an end to its stringent COVID-19 vaccination requirement for staff. This mandate, which was initially implemented in August 2021, had achieved a remarkable 99% compliance rate among classroom teachers and 97% among all employees, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
Board member George McKenna cast the sole dissenting vote, arguing that the mandate still served the purpose of saving lives.
