Car Plunging Into DC’s Potomac River After Running Off Arlington Bridge

A man was left with serious life-threatening injuries Thursday night after his car plunged off a Washington, DC, bridge into the icy waters below during a snowstorm.

The driver was involved in a crash with another vehicle on the Arlington Memorial Bridge when his car flew over the side railing of the bridge into the Potomac River just before 7 p.m., according to DC Fire and EMS.

The car quickly sank and was fully submerged by the time emergency responders got to the scene.

Divers pulled the man out of the sunken vehicle in a little more than 20 minutes, fire officials said during a press conference at the scene.
