Chicago Suburb Declares Emergency Over Flood Of Migrants

A Chicago suburb, the Village of Oak Park, declared a state of emergency on Thursday in response to the arrival of several dozen migrants, as announced in a press release.
More than 100 migrants required shelter due to frigid weather conditions, and many had been residing near a Chicago Police Department station, as stated in the press release from the local board.
To address this, the Chicago suburb allocated $150,000 on October 30 for migrant assistance, in addition to $150,000 in grant funding from the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, as detailed in the press release. On November 1, Village Manager Kevin J. Jackson initiated an emergency operations center to facilitate shelter for the migrants.
