Chicago To House Migrants In Tents, Considering NYC-Like Budget Cuts

Chicago is taking measures to address the surging number of undocumented migrants, with plans underway to establish military-grade tent encampments.
This initiative aims to alleviate the situation where over 1,500 asylum seekers have been accommodated in police stations for several months. Alderman Andre Vasquez shared details of this plan following a City Council meeting, as reported by the Center Square on Monday.
Mayor Brandon Johnson is also open to considering budget cuts akin to those implemented in New York City to tackle the escalating crisis. The move comes as Chicago is facing a substantial financial commitment, with projections indicating an expenditure exceeding $250 million for migrant-related expenses in 2023 alone.
