China Conducts Fighter Jet Flyovers Near Taiwan After Leader’s US Visit

On Saturday, the Taiwanese government reported that China had dispatched warships and dozens of fighter jets toward Taiwan as a response to a meeting between U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan.
The Chinese military commenced three-day “combat readiness patrols” aimed at warning Taiwan against seeking permanent independence.
The People’s Liberation Army did not indicate whether these patrols would involve missile exercises, which had previously disrupted shipping and airline flights.
In response to Speaker McCarthy’s meeting with President Tsai, Beijing imposed a travel ban and financial sanctions against American individuals and groups associated with the visit.
