Colorado Secretary Of State Says Got Death Threats After Removing Trump From Ballot

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold says she has received over 64 death threats since a lawsuit was filed to remove front-running 2024 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump from the state ballot.

Griswold, a Democrat, mentioned that she did not initiate the case but got involved due to her position.

In her recent statement, Griswold emphasized that she will stand firm against the public pressure and will not be intimidated by the threats.

“Within three weeks of the lawsuit being filed, I received 64 death threats. I stopped counting after that. I will not be intimidated. Democracy and peace will triumph over tyranny and violence,” Griswold wrote in her post. She also linked to an interview where she expressed her concerns about the violence and threats related to the lawsuit.

The root cause of the lawsuit was Trump’s alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol “insurrection or rebellion,” which would put him in violation of Section 3 of the Civil War-era 14th Amendment known as the Insurrection Clause or Disqualification Clause.

The Colorado Supreme Court ruled 4-3 to disqualify Trump from the state ballot based on this clause. The ruling pointed to Trump’s actions to challenge the 2020 election results and showed that he could not run under the Disqualification Clause.
