A tug boat’s sinking in the Tennessee River has resulted in the spillage of thousands of gallons of diesel fuel into the water, prompting the closure of beaches and parks in Alabama.
According to authorities in the city of Florence, located in the northwest region, the sunken boat has released an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel into the river. As a consequence, diesel fuel has started washing up on the beaches at McFarland Park, with reports of the contamination emerging around 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The incident has prompted the closure of affected beaches and parks as authorities work to contain the fuel spill and mitigate any potential environmental impact.
