A former award-winning teacher has been sentenced to jail after pleading guilty to engaging in a sexual relationship with a student over a decade ago.
Leah Ruthann Queen, 44, appeared before Benton County Circuit Judge Brad Karren, who handed down a sentence of six years of state-supervised probation and 58 days in the Benton County Jail. As part of the sentence, Queen is prohibited from having any contact with the victim.
The case involved a sexual assault that occurred between Queen and a student, which took place more than ten years ago. The guilty plea and subsequent sentencing highlight the consequences faced by individuals who abuse their position of authority and engage in inappropriate relationships with students.
