First Female Passes Army’s Sniper School

A historic milestone was achieved as U.S. Army Sgt. Maciel Hay became the first active-duty female to successfully complete the Army’s sniper school and qualify for service in the elite role.
Serving as a cavalry scout with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, Sgt. Hay passed the rigorous sniper course at Fort Moore, Georgia, last month.
This achievement follows the success of a National Guardsman from Montana, who became the first woman overall to earn the elite sniper qualification. Sgt. Hay expressed, “My nickname growing up was ‘Sniper.’”
