FL’s Largest Teachers Union Sues DeSantis For Barring Automatic Dues Deductions

The last place a politician usually wants to stand is between teacher union officials and teachers’ union dues. But Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis seems to relish the conflict.
The state’s largest teachers union is suing DeSantis over a new state law that bans the union from automatically deducting union dues from paychecks.
The new “Employee Organizations Representing Public Employees” was signed into law on Tuesday. By Wednesday, the Florida Education Association and its affiliates had sued the governor.
The unions bosses’ fear is that if the money isn’t automatically deducted, teachers will opt not to pay dues.
