Former Heisman Trophy College Football Winner Dies

Johnny Lujack, the renowned Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback who steered Notre Dame to three national championships during the 1940s, passed away in Florida on Tuesday at the age of 98, after a short period of illness.
Confirmation of Lujack’s death came from his granddaughter, Amy Schiller, who disclosed that he had been under hospice care following a recent decline in health, despite having been in good condition until a couple of weeks ago.
Schiller spoke fondly of her grandfather’s impact not only in the realm of Notre Dame football and sports, but also as a beloved figure within their family, admired as a remarkable father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
