GOP Supermajority Overrides Dem Gut’s Veto Of 12-Week Abortion Ban

The Republican Party holds one-vote supermajorities in the North Carolina House and Senate, and used that advantage to overturn the governor’s weekend veto of a pro-life bill.
North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper on Saturday vetoed a 12-week abortion ban, “compromise” legislation enacted to reduce the Tar Heel State’s notoriety as an abortion destination in the South. The restriction would still be more permissive than most other states in the South.
The Senate voted 30-20 to override Cooper’s veto, meeting the three-fifths threshold needed. The House voted along party lines, 72-48.
