Gov. Kemp Denies Special Session To Remove DA Willis Over Trump Case

Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA) announced on Thursday that there will be no convening of a special session within the Georgia State legislature aimed at impeaching Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. The governor cited concerns regarding potential unconstitutionality in pursuing such a course of action.
Kemp articulated that his decision is independent of his personal sentiments regarding Willis’s investigation into the activities of former President Donald Trump and his associates, accused of attempting to subvert the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
He emphasized that the authority to summon a special session does not rest within his purview. In a press conference held on Thursday, Kemp remarked, “The state of Georgia adheres to a legal framework that distinctly outlines permissible procedures if constituents perceive their local prosecutors are transgressing their pledge by engaging in unethical or illicit conduct.”
