Hawaii Attorney General Anne Lopez revealed on Thursday the initiation of an investigation into the handling of the devastating wildfires that have resulted in a death toll of at least 110 and extensive devastation across Maui island.
The comprehensive review, to be carried out by an independent third party, aims to scrutinize the decision-making process of both state and county officials both prior to and during the course of the destructive fires.
Lopez emphasized the impartial and independent nature of the review, stating, “This will be an impartial, independent review.” She further highlighted that involving a third-party entity in the review process is intended to ensure accountability, transparency, and the comprehensive revelation of all pertinent facts, thus instilling confidence among the people of Hawaii.
