New York Governor Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, is advancing a plan to revise the Civil Service Commission, prioritizing the hiring of undocumented immigrants for state positions.
In late January, Hochul endorsed a proposal to employ 4,000 undocumented immigrants for entry-level state positions. The plan not only aims to prioritize undocumented individuals but also eliminates several eligibility requirements for these positions.
Under the approved plan, the necessity for applicants to undergo the civil service exam and possess a high school diploma has been waived. The objective is to expedite the process of hiring undocumented immigrants for state jobs once they obtain approved work permits.
The Civil Service Commission greenlit the initiative on January 18, according to Spectrum News. Concurrently, there has been a notable exodus of affluent individuals from New York, driven by escalating taxes and a business-unfriendly regulatory environment.
A report by The New York Post in late 2023 revealed that ten additional billionaires relocated to Florida as New York persists in implementing high tax rates and anti-business policies.
This trend is not recent, as a 2022 study highlighted a continual decline in the number of taxpayers earning over $750,000 in New York City.
